Be inspired by one of Cold Spring’s most famous writers and gardeners, Anna B. Warner (1827-1915) at our upcoming hybrid lecture. Her gardening experiences living on Constitution Island between Cold Spring and West Point beginning in 1837 were published in her successful book, Gardening By Myself in 1872. Her wise and practical gardening tips about her Cottage-style ornamental and vegetable gardens influenced women to experience the joys of planning and creating their own gardens.

Barbara Hobens, author, speaker, and garden and historic landscape designer, shares Anna Warner’s wisdom in this lecture. A resident of Garrison and Cold Spring from 2006-2015, Barbara spoke at the Philadelphia Flower Show for five consecutive years, lectured at Monticello and the Ecological Landscape Alliance and was a member of the Constitution Island Association and Manitoga’s Woodland Landscape Council. Her gardens in Garrison were featured on the Putnam County Secret Garden Tour. After moving to Hyde Park, she served as Hyde Park Historian, president of the F.W. Vanderbilt Garden Association, and founded Hyde Park Garden Habitat. She was named a Harrison Fellow of the Historic Landscape Institute (Monticello/University of Virginia) and is writing her second gardening book.
