School Groups and Tours
Some of the field trips we offer include:
Indigenous Peoples in Putnam County
This exhibition and tour explores Lenape and Wappinger culture in the area, with a special focus on the Woodland period when these cultures flourished in the Hudson Valley. In addition to sharing Lenape stories—past and present—the exhibition features important artifacts and replicas including stone tools, stone points, pottery sherds, and a dugout canoe. Your students will also have the opportunity to tour Foundry Cove, where they will learn about Indigenous use of the land and water in the area for thousands of years.
The American Revolution – Benedict Arnold’s Flight
Walk in the footsteps of traitor and spy Benedict Arnold as he fled from Continental forces during the Revolutionary War. This hiking tour of that very same path will dive into the American Revolution here in the Hudson Highlands, and how the entire war was nearly lost in our backyard.
The Civil War & Industrialization – The West Point Foundry
On this hiking tour of the West Point Foundry, your students will learn about the Industrial Revolution, the Civil War, and how the specific conditions of the Hudson Valley led to one of the most important historical foundries in the United States. This tour may also include our permanent West Point Foundry indoor exhibition.
The American Environmental Movement – Little Stony Point
Explore the environmental and art history of the Hudson River on a tour around this former quarry turned park. We will explore the geology and natural resources of the Hudson River Valley and the various ways in which they have been idealized and threatened.
