West Point Foundry
There is a permanent Foundry exhibition on display at PHM, which includes photographs, artifacts, paintings, maps, and videos highlighting the holdings foundry related objects within the PHM collection, including a fully restored 10-pounder Parrott Rifle.
The West Point Foundry Preserve is open year round, daily from dawn to dusk. After hiking the site, visit the West Point Foundry exhibition in the Putnam History Museum.
Established in 1818 in Cold Spring, New York by Gouverneur Kemble and others, the West Point Foundry became one of the major industrial sites in the United States manufacturing iron products. Its most notable period was during the Civil War, when it produced the Parrott cannon designed by Robert Parker Parrott. The foundry closed in 1911.
